Celebrating 20 Years of Seniors Helping Seniors® In-Home Services

We’re celebrating 20 years of Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services this September 5th. As we reflect on 20 years of matching like-minded caregivers with individuals in need of assistance, we’re brought back to the very first caregiver.

Janette Reber was a 78-year-old retired military nurse. Recalling first offering her a job, Kiran Yocom, Co-Founder of Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services, said “Janette worked with us for many years, until she was about 90 years old. I remember she couldn’t believe that we wanted to pay her for her time, considering how much age discrimination is prevalent in other industries. But we saw how much love she had in her heart and how much she had to give”.

Nationwide, seniors like Janette are more and more often being treated as if an arbitrary number such as age determines how much they have to offer the world. Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services is determined to change that narrative. Kiran and Philip Yocom founded Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services as a way to give and receive®. Senior caregivers gain not only monetary compensation, but also intangible rewards like friendship and a sense of purpose. Senior care receivers gain compassionate companionship and the invaluable comfort of living in your own home on your own terms.

With 200 locations in the US, UK, and Malta, what could be next for Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services in the next 20 years? Spreading even more love, globally. “I’ve always believed that no human should leave this earth without feeling love, dignity, and compassion. So the more offices we open, the more people we can reach, the better,” said Yocom.
