What Is the VA Community Care Program?
The VA Community Care Program allows eligible veterans to receive care from approved community providers when the VA cannot provide services directly or in a timely manner.
Eligibility Requirements
You may qualify if:
– The needed care is not available at your local VA facility.
– You live too far from a VA clinic or hospital.
– The VA cannot schedule an appointment within standard access times.
– Your VA doctor determines that community care is in your best medical interest.
Services Covered
– In-home personal care and companionship
– Homemaker and home health aide services
– Respite care for caregivers
– Skilled nursing and therapy services
Referral Process
1. Your VA primary care provider must submit a Community Care referral.
2. The VA reviews your eligibility and authorizes services.
3. Once approved, you can choose a VA-authorized partner such as Seniors Helping Seniors®.

What Are VA Homemaker and Home Health Aide (H/HHA) Benefits?
The Homemaker Home Health Aide (H/HHA) program helps veterans stay safe and independent at home by providing daily living assistance.
Eligibility Requirements
– Must be enrolled in VA health care.
– Must have a VA physician’s determination of need for in-home assistance.
– Available to veterans of all ages requiring personal care, household, or mobility help.
Services Covered
– Light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation
– Grocery shopping and errands
– Personal hygiene and grooming
– Companionship and safety checks
Referral Process
1. Talk to your VA primary care team about your needs.
2. If approved, your VA social worker will refer you to a contracted provider.
3. Seniors Helping Seniors® Central Oklahoma can be matched to provide your care.

What Is the VA Respite Care Benefit?
Respite Care gives family caregivers a temporary break while ensuring the veteran continues to receive quality, compassionate care.
Eligibility Requirements
– Must be enrolled in VA health care.
– The VA must determine that your caregiver would benefit from relief.
– Services can be provided in-home, at an adult day care, or a VA-approved facility.
Services Covered
– Temporary in-home support (from hours to days)
– Companionship and supervision
– Light assistance with daily activities
Referral Process
Contact your VA social worker or Caregiver Support Coordinator to request a respite referral. Once approved, Seniors Helping Seniors® Central Oklahoma can deliver in-home respite support.

What Is the VA Aid and Attendance Benefit?
Aid and Attendance (A&A) is a monthly financial benefit added to a veteran’s or surviving spouse’s pension to help pay for home care or personal assistance.
Eligibility Requirements
You may qualify if you:
– Receive or are eligible for a VA pension.
– Need help with activities like bathing, dressing, or eating.
– Are mostly homebound due to disability.
– Meet VA income and asset guidelines.
Services Covered
– Personal care (bathing, dressing, grooming)
– Meal preparation and light housekeeping
– Companionship and safety monitoring
Application Process
1. Complete VA Form 21-2680 (Examination for Housebound Status or Permanent Need for Regular Aid and Attendance).
2. Submit documentation to your VA Pension Management Center.
3 . Use the benefit to pay for home care through Seniors Helping Seniors® Central Oklahoma.
