Our Caregivers

Ben Chernow 02 Dec 2024

Seniors Helping Seniors® Bethesda employs professional caregivers who enjoy building relationships with clients through genuine engagement and meaningful connections. We do this by hiring mature and sophisticated people with strong interpersonal skills, and then provide them with the training and coaching to be great caregivers.

Every caregiver we hire meets the following criteria:

Mature

We hire caregivers with life experience who can relate to clients.

Sophisticated

Our caregivers are mostly retired professionals, and include former diplomats, lawyers, pilots, nurses, pharmacists, lobbyists, professors, and scientists.

They are highly competent and can handle semi complex life administration tasks beyond the scope of ordinary home care, such as facilitating home repairs, obtaining parking permits, and navigating airports.1

Professional

We provide professional caregivers who can serve as trusted resources for a client’s family and care team. All of our caregivers are:

  • Vetted – all caregivers must pass a thorough criminal background check and driving record check.
  • Trained – all caregivers must complete a rigorous training course that covers topics such as client confidentiality, infection prevention, and symptom identification.
  • Insured & Bonded – all caregivers are insured and bonded through Seniors Helping Seniors® Bethesda.

Meet Some of Our Caregivers

Seniors Helping Seniors® Bethesda has a fantastic team of caregivers, including Anna and Jim, who were both featured by the Positive Aging Sourcebook as part of their Purposeful Living series. Three more of our great caregivers are profiled below:2

Antoinette

Antoinette is a retired preschool teacher who discovered her penchant for caregiving while caring for her grandmother. Antoinette’s clients typically characterize her as “warm” and “sweet”. She loves to travel and her family has a vacation place that they use for skiing and fishing. Antoinette is an active member of her church and sings in the church choir. She also enjoys country and R&B music.

Cindy

Cindy previously worked as a restaurateur, massage therapist, nurse, and geriatric care manager. She is also an accredited Aging Life Care Manager®. Cindy grew up in the Washington DC area and just recently moved back after living in Florida for over thirty (30) years. She enjoys gardening and volunteering her time to hospice and LGBT+ organizations.

Jim

Jim had a varied career in the energy sector where he worked as a lobbyist, consultant, analyst, and marketer. Jim is devoted to his clients and has been known to run errands for them off-the-clock. He enjoys woodworking and once built desk shelves for a client who struggled with organizing their home office. Jim also regularly volunteers his time with the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI).
