Helping Aging Parents from a Distance

Retirement comes more quickly than sometimes we realize, and brings with it a number of important decisions about how and where to spend our golden years. One of the bigger questions that comes up in considering where to retire is whether or not to move closer to family. There are good reasons to do so–company, spending time with the grandchildren, and the kind of support that only family can provide. However, many seniors have other desires–a different climate, a new adventure, or just staying in the home they’ve lived in for so long. The fact is that older adults in the United States are more likely to live alone than their counterparts elsewhere in the world, and very often by choice. Seniors Helping Seniors is here to make that decision easier by offering Long Distance Check-In services, allowing the family of a senior to get regular updates on their well-being even when living far away.

As part of the services we offer for family caregivers, Long Distance Check-Ins are a way of staying involved with and informed about your senior’s life. One of our caregivers will stop by on a regular basis to provide a bit of company for your senior, and check on how they’re doing. This provides the senior with a chance to connect with another person while allowing our caregiver to provide the family with updates as to the senior’s health, mental acuity, and overall well-being. It’s an easy yet valuable service that benefits all involved and helps ensure that family stays informed no matter the distance between them.

This is one of the services that Seniors Helping Seniors offers as support for family caregivers who have a senior in their lives. While all of our services are designed with seniors in mind, this collection of offerings is also intended to make life a bit easier for the family of a senior who just needs a bit of support from time to time. Other such services include:

  • Dementia, Memory, and Alzheimer’s Care: taking care of a senior dealing with memory or cognitive issues can be a challenge, and Seniors Helping Seniors understands the strain it can put on family members. Our volunteers are trained to help with this process, assisting family members in recognizing and coping with the various stages of these conditions and understanding and working with the behaviors they cause.
  • Respite Care: Seniors are an important part of any family or household, and having them around is a wonderful and rewarding thing. Even the most dedicated caregivers need a break every now and then, and that’s where our respite care services come in. We’ll spend time with your senior while you’re doing other things you need to do, ensuring that they get the care and companionship they need while you get some time to yourself.
  • Overnight Stays and 24-Hour Care: We understand that care might be needed at any time of the day or night, including an overnight stay on occasion. Our dedicated service providers are here to help with that need should it arise.

All of our services are centered around the needs of the senior in question, and how we can make their golden years a little easier and a little more enjoyable. Seniors Helping Seniors Northern Nevada can provide the support, friendship, and personal care that many seniors need to get the most out of this time of their life. So whether you’re looking for an opportunity to volunteer or a little extra help for the seniors in your life, get in touch today.
