If you’re caring for an aging parent in the Tri-Valley — or if you’re a senior looking to stay connected and independent — you already know that navigating available resources can feel overwhelming. The good news? Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore are home to a rich network of programs, nonprofits, and city services designed specifically to help older adults thrive right where they live.

This guide is your starting point. We’ve compiled the most relevant, hyper-local resources across the Tri-Valley so you can spend less time searching and more time focusing on what matters most.

Senior Centers: Your Community Hub

Senior centers are often the heartbeat of local aging services, and the Tri-Valley has three outstanding options.

Dublin Senior Center

7600 Amador Valley Blvd, Dublin, CA 94568

The Dublin Senior Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. [1] The center’s goal is to sustain a warm, welcoming, and accessible recreation facility that fulfills the social, educational, and creative needs of those 50 years and older, supporting independent and healthy lifestyles. [2] Each month, the Dublin Senior Center serves approximately 10,000 seniors and continues to grow as new programs and amenities are introduced. [3] Free services available at the center include Medicare counseling through HICAP (Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program) and free quarterly health screenings by the Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley for Alameda County residents. [4]

Pleasanton Senior Center

5353 Sunol Blvd, Pleasanton, CA 94566

The Pleasanton Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities for older adults 50 and up. [6] CityServe of the Tri-Valley Senior Programs are available through the center, providing services for older adults that foster independence, promote safety and wellbeing, preserve dignity, create community, and improve quality of life. [6] The center also offers Pleasanton Rides — a program providing safe, comfortable, and affordable rides for Pleasanton seniors 70 years and older, funded in part by the Alameda County Transportation Commission Measure BB. [7]

LARPD Senior Services (Livermore)

4444 East Ave, Livermore, CA 94550

The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) offers a wide variety of programs and services specifically for adults who are over 50, including health and wellness classes, enrichment classes, day and extended trips, social events, and resource and referral services. [8] LARPD’s Good Thyme Cafe lunch program is offered Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. [9] The district also provides an extensive information and referral service, including information on senior housing, transportation, and navigating age-related issues. [10]

Transportation: Getting Around the Tri-Valley

Mobility challenges can limit a senior’s independence, but several local transportation programs help older adults access essential amenities such as medical centers and stores. [11]

  • LAVTA Dial-a-Ride: The Livermore/Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) offers door-to-door service for seniors and disabled individuals who qualify. LAVTA serves Dublin, Livermore, and Pleasanton residents. [12] Call Dial-a-Ride at 925-455-7565 to apply.
  • VAST Program (Volunteers Assisting Seniors with Transportation): The Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley offers the VAST program for seniors 60 years and older who need door-to-door service to medical appointments and must live in the Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, or Sunol area. [13] Call 925-931-5387 for more information.
  • Pleasanton Rides: This program provides safe, comfortable, reliable, and affordable rides for Pleasanton seniors 70 years and older. [7]
  • RideCare (CityServe): CityServe of the Tri-Valley provides free transportation to social service offices, pharmacies, grocery stores, and medical appointments to adults aged 60 or over and individuals with disabilities aged 18 and over. [14]

Meals and Nutrition: Staying Nourished at Home and in the Community

Food security is a real concern for many older adults. Fortunately, the Tri-Valley has multiple programs to help.

  • Open Heart Kitchen: Open Heart Kitchen serves free meals and groceries at multiple locations in Dublin, Livermore, and Pleasanton. [15] Senior meals are offered at the Robert Livermore Community Center (4444 East Ave.), Pleasanton Senior Center (5353 Sunol Blvd.), and Dublin Senior Center (7600 Amador Valley Blvd.). Reservations are required — call 925-500-8241. [16]
  • Meals on Wheels (Spectrum Community Services): Dublin seniors who are homebound, 60 years or older, and unable to cook may qualify to participate in Alameda County’s Meals on Wheels program. [17] Contact Spectrum Community Services’ Tri-Valley office at 925-931-5385 for more information.
  • Culinary Angels: The Tri-Valley’s leading provider of local, organic, nutrient-rich meals and nutrition education to those going through a cancer challenge as well as to their caregivers. [18] Visit culinaryangels.org for more information.

Health, Wellness, and Mental Health Resources

Staying healthy in mind and body is essential for aging in place. The Tri-Valley offers a range of programs to support seniors’ physical and mental well-being.

  • CityServe of the Tri-Valley: CityServe offers a full slate of services and activities for elders, including Wellness Coaching, Medication Management, and a Tech Cafe — a class that teaches seniors about technology, specifically how to stay connected online. [19] CityServe also offers weekly in-person and online Tai Ji Quan, Tai Chi, and Sit Fit exercise classes, as well as a fall-prevention program and a caregiver support group for family members caring for elders. [20]
  • PACE Tri-Valley (Center for Elders’ Independence): PACE Tri-Valley serves seniors in Pleasanton, San Ramon, Dublin, Danville, and Livermore, offering specialized services in a welcoming environment with a dedicated team of professionals. [21] Their physical therapy team works closely with seniors to help preserve confidence and independence. [21]
  • Geriatric Assessment and Response Team: This program provides consultation services and short-term case management for Alameda County residents 60+ with serious mental health, alcohol, or drug concerns. [22] Call 510-891-5650 for more information.
  • Fall Prevention: Since falls are the leading cause of injury-related death among adults older than 65, fall prevention strength and balance training are vital. [23] CityServe and Spectrum Community Services both offer fall prevention programs in the Tri-Valley.

Caregiver Support: Help for the Helpers

Many seniors rely on family caregivers, who also need resources and respite. [24] The Tri-Valley has dedicated support for those in the caregiver role.

  • Alameda County Family Caregiver Support Program: This program offers training, respite care services, and financial assistance for unpaid caregivers. [24]
  • CityServe Caregiver Support Group: CityServe offers a caregiver support group for family members caring for elders, as well as special events throughout the year. [20]
  • Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley (now part of CityServe): This independent nonprofit serves people over 60 in the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, and Sunol, offering in-home counseling and caregiver support. [25]

Financial Assistance for Tri-Valley Seniors

Financial hardship can be a barrier to getting the help seniors need. Here are local resources that can help:

  • Wiesner Memorial Senior Fund: The Wiesner Memorial Senior Fund is a special reservoir of funds serving seniors in need of financial assistance who live in the Tri-Valley area (Dublin, Livermore, and Pleasanton). Seniors aged 60 or older may apply, and all requests for assistance are kept confidential. Financial assistance may cover prescription costs, small home repairs, auto repairs, food, and other similar financial needs. [26]
  • Alameda County Area Agency on Aging (AAA): The AAA provides services to persons aged 60 and older through grants from the Federal Administration on Aging, the State of California, and the County of Alameda. Services include Adult Day Care, Family Caregiver Support programs, Food and Nutrition programs, Legal Assistance, Senior Information and Assistance, Long Term Care Ombudsman Services, and Senior Center Services. [27]
  • 211 Alameda County: For help with any health or human service need in Alameda County, call 211. This free, non-emergency, confidential service provides easy access to housing information and critical health and human services, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with multi-lingual capabilities. [28]
  • Legal Assistance for Seniors: Free legal consultations are available for tenants 60 years and older who are experiencing housing issues. [29]
